TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE PLATFORM

Using Total Careers successfully

The Total Careers website brings together our Group’s job vacancies throughout the world and job vacancies are renewed frequently.

To maximize your chances of finding a job that suits you, check this website regularly or use the automatic alert feature to be notified when new opportunities are posted online (see the “Creating an automatic alert” section of these FAQs).

You can create your Personal Account even if you don’t intend to apply for a job offer immediately. In your Personal Account, you can:

  • Activate the automatic alert feature,
  • Track the progress of your applications,
  • Store the reference documents you need for your applications (up to 5 CVs/resumes and 5 cover letters). These documents can be edited in “My reference documents”. We recommend that you complete and review them thoroughly before applying because once you decide to apply for a job vacancy, the documents you send will be permanently linked to your application.
  • Receive documents from the recruiter (practical information regarding the employment process, etc.).

YOUR Personal Account

Creating an automatic alert

You can create an automatic alert in your Personal Account and on other pages of our website. However, you must have an account to activate this feature.

You will then receive an email containing the latest online job vacancy based on the criteria that you selected (region, country, professional area and type of contract). If you wish to change any of the criteria, you will need to create a new automatic alert.

Managing your reference documents

In the “My reference documents” section of your Personal Account, you can store up to 5 CVs/resumes and 5 cover letters in order to respond appropriately to job offers (language, references). These documents remain personal and confidential until you decide to use them to apply for an offer.

You can work on these documents at any time, but once you link them to an application, the attached versions can no longer be edited.

Deleting your Personal Account

Go to the “My profile” section of your Personal Account and click on the “Delete my profile” button. Please note that deleting your Personal Account also deletes your stored documents and any pending applications.

Storing your data

We are committed to processing personal data in the strictest confidentiality. Furthermore, the data is stored in accordance with the laws in effect in the country where they are collected. For more information, refer to our legal notice.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

Submitting one or more applications

There is no set limit for the number of applications. First, create your Personal Account. You can then store the reference documents (up to 5 CVs/resumes and 5 cover letters) that you wish to send for the job or jobs that interest you.

If multiple job vacancies interest you, you will have to apply for each one separately, even if you want to use the same reference documents.

Receiving additional questionnaires

Our recruiters may contact you by email to request additional information. You will be required to fill out the online questionnaires to complete your application. Please reply immediately. Failing to reply in a timely manner may delay or disqualify you from the recruitment process.

Submitting your CV/resume for a speculative application

If our database displays no job vacancy results for your searches, you also have the option of sending us a CV/resume for a speculative application. Your file will become part of our candidate talent pool that our recruiters can access. You can withdraw your application at any time.

To apply without applying for a specific vacancy, please submit a speculative application by creating a Personal Account. You will then be able to store your CVs/resumes and cover letters and then send them to us by clicking on the “Speculative application” link.

Applying for a job on an oil rig or a rotating position

We organize work differently depending on the requirements of our work and industrial sites. Regardless of how work is organized – rotating positions or periodic assignments on oil rigs for example – all our job offers are available on the Total Careers website.

Use keywords and the search engine’s country and profession filters to selectively navigate through our job offers database. You can also use the automatic alert feature. You must first create your Personal Account to activate this feature.

Submitting your application to work in a service station

Our service stations are managed in different ways, and their workers are not always employed by the Total Group. If you are searching for a job at a service station, we recommend that you send your application directly to the manager of the location in question, regardless of the type of work contract that interests you.

Furthermore, you will find specific information on becoming an operator-manager of a service station by clicking on this link (French only).

Submitting your application as a student

The Total Group supports and works with students and graduates at various stages of their training and specialization journeys, offering internships, work/study training programs, international volunteer programs, scholarships, grants and sponsorships.

For more information on these options, visit the “Students” section on our Total Careers website home page.

Applying in a specific country, professional area or profession

The Total Careers website brings together our Group’s job vacancies from all the countries where we operate and all professions. Use the search engine’s country, professional area or profession filters to selectively navigate through our job vacancy database.

If your search by criteria returns no job vacancy results, visit our website regularly or use the automatic alert feature. You must first create your Personal Account to activate this feature.

Language for responding to a job offer

Our job vacancies are posted in different languages based on the profile required or its country of origin. We recommend that you respond in the language in which the offer is written. An application in a different language will not be processed.

Sending your application outside the Total Careers platform

All applications must be sent via our Total Careers platform. You will need to create a Personal Account to store your reference documents (up to 5 CVs/resumes and 5 cover letters) and send them to us. Applications sent directly to our departments by mail or fax will not be considered unless you were specifically instructed to do so.

Support for people with disabilities

The Total Group is committed to an equal opportunity policy, from recruitment to the career development of our employees. The job vacancies posted on the Total Careers website are open to minorities, woemn, veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Furthermore, our Group supports people with recognized disabilities from the moment they are hired by the company. We will take the appropriate supportive and compensatory measures required by your disability. For more information on the actions implemented, we urge you to contact our team of disability advocates Mission Handicap

EDITING YOUR APPLICATION

Suspending and reactivating your application for a job

You can suspend or reactivate your application for a job vacancy at any time. Go to the “Track my applications” section in your Personal Account. Select the application that you wish to suspend or reactivate, and then click on the appropriate action button.

Please be aware that the documents linked to an application (even if suspended) are permanently linked to it and thus cannot be edited.

If you suspended your application for a job vacancy and it cannot be reactivated, it means that the selection process has progressed too far to apply again.

If these tips have not answered your question, please let us know using the contact form.

Editing part of your application

The reference documents attached to your application (CV/Resume, cover letter) are permanently linked to it. You cannot edit them once you have applied.

The reference documents (CV/Resume, cover letter) stored in your candidate space can be edited. Go to the “My reference documents” section. Select the document(s) that you wish to edit and click on the appropriate action button. You will now be able to use these edited documents to apply for a new job offer.

Withdrawing your application

If you withdraw your application for a job vacancy, you will not be able to apply for it again. All withdrawals are final.

To withdraw your application, go to the “Track my applications” section, select the application you wish to withdraw and click on the appropriate action button.

If you are not sure about your decision, we recommend that you suspend your application. You will be able to reactivate it later. These suspension and reactivation operations are also accessible via “Track my applications”.

FOCUS STUDENTS

Work/Study training programs (France)

We offer 3 types of work/study training programs: full-time or work/study professional training programs, and apprenticeship contracts.

You can view our offers and apply on the Total Careers website. You can also configure an automatic alert based on these different types of program/contract (see the “Creating an automatic alert” section of this FAQ).

The professional training programs aim to help young people aged under 26 and jobseekers aged 26 years and over to enter or re-enter the workforce. They enable them to acquire a vocational qualification:

  • Full-time professional training program: you are a company employee taking advantage of a training program during your work hours. The maximum length of this program is 12 months.
  • Work/study professional training program: you divide your time between your company job and your educational institution according to a defined schedule. The length of this program varies from 6 to 24 months depending on your training course. You must obtain permission from the school.

Apprenticeship contracts enable young people aged 16 to 25 to receive training that leads to a qualification. The apprentice divides his or her time between school and the company according to a defined schedule. Their lengths vary from 12 to 36 months depending on the training course.

Internships

Our internships are offered throughout the year in all fields and in all countries. You can view our offers and apply on the Total Careers website. You can also configure an automatic alert for our internship offers (see the “Creating an automatic alert” section of this FAQ).

The length of these internships are generally between 1 and 6 months.

International volunteer programs (VIE and VIS)

We offer 2 types of international volunteer programs: VIE (Volunteer for International Experience) and VIS (Volunteer for International Science).

You can view our offers and apply on the Total Careers website. You can also configure an automatic alert for our VIE and VIS offers (see the “Creating an automatic alert” section of this FAQ).

The VIE and VIS programs are open to European Union nationals under the age of 29:

  • VIE programs offer a professional assignment outside of France, with responsibilities and goals to fulfill. They vary in length from 12 and to 24 months and are relevant to technical professions and support functions (IT, HR, finance, marketing, commercial, etc.). Candidate mobility is essential since, as a rule, VIE offers are made based on the jobs available and the qualifications required and not necessarily based on country choice.
  • VIS programs give students or young graduates the chance to join research teams in university laboratories, research centers, nonprofits or public institutions. Private institutions are excluded from this program. In this type of volunteer program, the Total Group acts as the sole financer or cofinancer of a VIS. The length of these assignments is flexible, ranging from 6 to 24 months, and they are renewable once within the 24-month limit.

For more information on the conditions governing a VIE or VIS, visit the http://www.civiweb.com website.

Total Young Graduate Program

The Total Young Graduate Program is aimed at young graduates wishing to pursue a career within our Group. Several options coexist and target different regions in the world: Africa, China, Middle-East, United Kingdom, USA, etc.

You can view our offers and apply on the Total Careers website. You can also configure an automatic alert for this type of offer (see the “Creating an automatic alert” section of this FAQ).

Educational grants and scholarships

The Total Group sponsors a number of scholarships aimed at financing activities outside of university, community projects or the acquisition of technical and professional knowledge.

In addition, our Group offers scholarships to Master's level 1 and 2 students wishing to study for a Master's degree at the IFP School in France or Imperial College London.

For more information on Total’s educational grants and scholarships, visit the www.total-campus.com website.

IFP (Institut Français du Pétrole) SCHOOL SPONSORSHIPS

The Total Group sponsors students from the IFP (Institut Français du Pétrole) School or those who wish to attend to study a specific course. You can view our sponsorship offers and apply on the Total Careers website.

These sponsorships are subject to the following conditions:

  • Current study in an engineering school or university – Master's 1 and Master's 2 levels;
  • Internships completed in the oil sector or other equivalent industrial sectors;
  • Fluent English.

For more information on IFP School programs, visit the institution’s website at: www.ifp-school.com .

FRAUD

Recognizing a fraudulent offer

Watch out for the fraudulent use of our identity! If recruitment agencies contact you in our name and ask you for a financial contribution, please be aware that they do not work for Total and this is considered a case of fraud. Partners authorized by Total and its subsidiaries will never ask a candidate for remuneration or payment of any costs, regardless of the circumstances.

These false agencies operate on recruitment platforms or via professional social networks. We report them as soon as possible to the moderators of the companies in question and encourage you to do the same.

False user ID requests

Watch out for the fraudulent use of your identity! Your user ID required for logging in to your candidate account on Total Careers website is strictly confidential. We will send you an email containing a password reset link only if you request it and we will never request for you to provide your password.

If you receive an email or SMS requesting your user ID in the name of Total or its subsidiaries, do not answer it. It is a message intended to obtain your user ID (phishing) or a cover for fraud.

Reporting a fraudulent offer

If you believe or suspect that you are the target of a fraudulent offer, please report it to us by completing the contact form available here. We will make every effort to put an end to it.

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS

Your Personal Account is inaccessible

If you can no longer access your Personal Account, there are three possible reasons:

  • User ID error:
    • Please note that your User ID is always an email address, never an assumed name;
    • Try another email address if you use more than one;
    • Reenter your User ID manually, without using copy/paste or the autofill feature of a password manager.
  • Password error:
    • Reenter your password manually, without using copy/paste or the autofill feature of a password manager;
    • Request recovery of your password (go to the “Resetting your password” section of these FAQ.
  • Preexisting candidate account:
    • When creating your Personal Account, if you receive a message indicating that it already exists, it means that your user ID (email) has already been entered into our database and that you are already registered. If you have forgotten your password, go to the “Resetting your password” of this FAQ.
    • It may also mean that you have already used this ID (email) to register on the Hutchinson recruitment website, a Total subsidiary that shares our database. The same password can thus be used to access your Personal Account on the Total Careers website.
Other technical problems

Total Careers was designed to make it easy for candidates to browse and use the website. If you find a fault, please share your feedback with us. Please contact our technical support department using the contact form. Describe the improvement you recommend and, if possible, attach screen grabs. We will make every effort to get back to you as soon as possible.
