Managing and Developing our Diverse Skills
The Human Resources function aims to efficiently match employees and jobs on a sustainable basis, in terms of total headcount, qualifications and motivation. The goal is to make optimum, ongoing use of available skills in implementing company strategy, which the Human Resources function itself helps to define.
Human Resources represents the vast range of skills required to manage our employees, both individually and as a group. Total’s international scope provides impetus for all our businesses by making them both local, since it is necessary to be as responsive as possible to requirements in the field, and global, since it is essential see the bigger picture, encouraging employee mobility and integration, while respecting a variety of cultures.
The men and women working in Human Resources are in direct contact with all the Group’s disciplines and activities. Their range of concerns could not be any broader.
A Multi-Faceted Activity Governed by Four Principles
Total’s Human Resources policy reflects our corporate philosophy, which is based on four principles: diversity, fairness, mobility and responsibility.
Supervised by operating managers on sites or at headquarters, the Human Resources teams are active in a number of areas:
- Management and administration, covering legislation and contractual issues. - Labor law and employee relations legislation, which include support and advice to promote sound relations between management and labor. - The implementation of incentive policies concerning wages and bonuses, the management of pension and insurance coverage, and the monitoring of the rules/categories applicable to expatriates.
These specialist teams are supplemented by Human Resources development teams, whose backgrounds qualify them to implement HR planning programs capable of responding to the challenges of organizational issues, working methods and demographic trends. Their work is incorporated into policies in such key areas as recruitment, career management, training and mobility.
