Volunteer for International Experience

Volunteer for International Experience (V.I.E.)

To meet the operating needs of our subsidiairies in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia and elsewhere, we offer more than 100 V.I.E. assignments at any given time in a wide variety of areas, such as geosciences, drilling, processes, operations, R&D, financial control and human resources.

These assignments give you an exceptional opportunity to spend 12 to 24 months acquiring job experience in a foreign country and to support your commitment to pursuing an international career. You'll discover Total, the diversity of our businesses and our career opportunities.

At the same time, we'll assign you real work and, depending on your performance and motivation, may offer you a permanent position within the Group at the end of your assignement.

For this reason, the V.I.E. recruitment process is practically identical to the standard recruitment process at Total, with one difference: as required under French law, your V.I.E. contract will be signed with Ubifrance, the French Agency for International Business Development.

Volunteer for International Scientific Experience (V.I.S.)

Total cooperates actively with public research organizations worldwide. Around 20 volunteers take part in research projects conducted jointly by our R&D centers in Europe, North America and Japan and university research teams around the world. The scientific disciplines span all of our activities, from earth sciences, process engineering and catalysis to polymers and specialty chemicals.

Each project is led by a Total researcher, who sets the research program and manages it in line with the results, in close cooperation with the university official in charge. V.I.S. assignments give you a chance to take part in projects with potential industrial applications and well-defined goals and resources.

The program usually lasts 16 months and the project can either be stand-alone or part of a wider, multi-year program.

V.I.S. assignments let you acquire international experience in a company while discovering the world of academic research. They give us an opportunity to get to know you better, assess your motivation and performance on the basis of real-world experience and make a decision concerning a potential hiring.

The V.I.S. recruitment process is virtually the same as the Total recruitment process, with one difference: as required under French law, your V.I.S. contract will be signed with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
